In the 115th episode in our Youtube series Body Piercing Basics, DaVo gives instructions on how to remove and change a Hinged or Segment ring.
What are hinged rings?
How do they work
What do you need?
Water Based Lubricant
A Clean Flat Surface to set parts on Covered with a clean paper towel
Hemostats or tweezers
Removing the Jewelry
Locate the seam and the hinge
Firmly grab the ring and the segment area between your index and thumb of each hand
Pull down or outward on the segment area. Make sure not to put any stress on the piercing
lubricate the jewelry and gently slide the jewelry out.
How do you put them back in
Lubricate the tip of the ring
insert the jewelry into the piercing
push the segment toward the seam and press inward until you hear a snap.
Hemostats or tweezers can be helpful in grabbing the jewelry for opening and removing.
Also can be used to pull or insert the jewelry into tight areas.
Always store jewelry in a clean baggie or container on their own. Do not store with a bunch of other jewelry
