What to look for:

  1. Training:

    1. Did they apprentice?

    2. Who did they apprentice under?

    3. How long was the apprenticeship?

  2. Experience

    1. How long have they been piercing?

    2. Where have they pierced in the past?

  3. Established

    1. How long has the studio been in business?

    2. Do they have a professional Website?

    3. Are they represented on Social Media?

    4. How do they interact with reviews?

  4. Know your piercer

    1. If possible schedule a consultation

    2. Research your piercer online

    3. They should have a bio online that covers many of these questions

    4. Most piercers are a public figure

  5. Professionalism

    1. How do they interact with you?

    2. Do they seem pleasant?

    3. Are they open with information?

    4. Are they clean and well kept?

    5. Do they feel rushed?

  6. Educational

    1. Do they volunteer information?
    2. Do they give you a pre-piercing consolation?
    3. Do they cover aftercare instructions in person?
  7. Studio & Pride of ownership

    1. Does the place look clean and maintained?
    2. Is it comfortable and reflects the piercer’s personality?
    3. Does the place seem like an assembly line or a Great Clips?
  8. Quality of jewelry:

    1. Do they have internally threaded or threadless jewelry?
    2. Do they offer Titanium, SSS, and other materials?
    3. Do they stock multiple styles and sizes?
