Captive Bead Rings Removing & Changing - Body Piercing Basics EP113

In the 113th episode in our Youtube series Body Piercing Basics, DaVo gives instructions on how to remove and change a captive bead ring.

Describe CBR

What do you need?

  1. Clean hands

  2. Examine gloves

  3. Water-Based Lubricant

  4. A Clean Flat Surface to set parts on Covered with a clean paper towel

  5. Possibly some tools

    1. Ring Expansion pliers

    2. Ring Closing pliers

    3. Hemostats or pliers(taped)

How do you remove them

  1. First, locate the ball or bead

  2. Spin it to verify that it is CBR

  3. Grab the ring between index and thumb

  4. Grab Bead with other index and thumb

  5. Pull the two outward and up.

How do you put them back in

  1. Lubricate the tip of the ring

  2. insert the jewelry into the piercing

  3. locate the indented part of the bead

  4. Line it up with the end of the ring

  5. push the bead downward while pull the other side of the ring outward

  6. Verify that it is in by spinning the bead

With tools

  1. use the ring expansion pliers to pull the ring apart and the ball will fall out

  2. To put back in line up the indention or hole on the bead with the end of the ring

  3. Apply slight pressure against the pliers until the bead slides into place

  4. spin the bead to verify that it is in

What if the gap is too small?

  • use the ring expansion pliers to expand it further and then ring closing pliers to compress the ring when you put the bead back in.

  • Either by hand or with pliers bend the jewelry into a corkscrew shape and then bend back.
